Answer.

Yeah so the eternal question.. Why are we here ? And why this planet ? Why not on some other, Mars for example. But then why mars ..?

Anyways, so why are we here ? What should we be doing to make this life meaningful ? Helping others ? In doing what ? In living better..? Better than what ? Animals have a clear purpose. Their only goal is to survive and reproduce. Its like they have a clear mission. Eat to live, mate and protect your young ones. Pass on your genes. Day after day, day after day, they keep on doing this. Surroundings may change, years may change but the general idea behind an animals existence is the same. Survive and reproduce.

Ok so now comes the why. Why survive ? What for ? and for whom ? 10 years down the line a tiger dies, mostly tragically, a far cry from the formidable and majestic creature it was once. So why did it fight on ? Why did it strive to survive, just to die one day in sorrow ? Whats the point ? I mean sure, its not that long term. A tiger would be after short term gains. Its hungry, it hunts, eats and hence survives another day. Days add up to become years and years add up to become a lifetime. The reproduction too is a short term exercise I guess. The tiger feels the urge, it strives to find a mate, copulates and has progeny. It protects them. This is unaccounted for. Why protect them ? Why not focus on the goals like before. Food and sex. Nature has hardwired a parent-child bond into all of us to make sure life carries on, on this blue planet. But then who is this nature ? And why does it want to make sure that life carries on here ? And why not on other planets of the solar system. Where is the nature there ?

Coming to humans, we don't just eat and mate. We do a lot more, like fight wars for instance. But it all boils down to just these two at the end. We want to survive and we want people with our DNA to be the ones living happily in this cruel world.

Does this ever end ? Or does this cycle go on and on without meaning. Just as is. And not what for ? Why ? Logic says, things happen for a cause. What is this cause. How can we make this life meaningful ? The easy answer to this question is by remaining happy. Happiness. What does that mean ? Difficult question. Lets suppose, for now, happiness means x. And the reason we are all here is to be happy. Or more clearly to try to be happy. Is it like a 70-80 year old getaway from somewhere, where people are sent so that they can try to be happy. Some find happiness in material gains, some in spiritual. Some become happy by making others happy. We call them philanthropists and heap praise on them. But at the end, everyone is just tring to be happy. Some try to excel to make their parents proud and happy which in turn makes them happy.

So then, turns out, things are not so unclear after all. The purpose of this life is to be happy. But then we haven't defined happiness. We still have that x. What is happiness ?

'Happiness' is too broad a word. The real purpose of life is the pursuit of finding somebody you can have 'intimate sex' with. People get confused with sex. No. Intimate sex is the word.

2,3,4,5 cents.. duhhh just scribling like that.
If you remember, in our college time I used to write a blog.I posted a simillar forray into the human psyche .The name of the post was The Real Atlantis.If you get time visit it http://thelearningsofmymind.blogspot.com .
If you dont have time then some thoughts that I would like to share:

Economics:
According to Adam Smith: There is an invisibe hand which guides each one of us to be a means to an end whether or not we intend to do so.
In other words the one who values a particular good the most has it.
So I guess we are moving towards a world where we have most efficient use of resources.

Now the above is highly debatable and can be and is debated on almost continually.

Philosophy:
Classes and masses, patricans and plebs,these sort of divisions have always existed in our world.The beauty of human mind is that we dont stop at mere survival but we strive for efficiency and want to reach the zenith of efficient allocation of resources in other words what I call towards a Atlantis ( a euphoric state where there is no room left for technology or medicine orthe like).To achieve that we invent tools,machines,doctrines and other stuff.Now whether we have this mission on our mind or not we invisibly work towards this goal.The human spirit to win over everything , to distinguish oneself,to leave his/her mark is beyond anything that exists in lesser mortals if one will like to call them that.

Will like to close this abrutly as there are quite a lot of other pointers to be analyzed.Good thing to think about though.

Well its good that you are writing a lil verbose posts.Atleast one can know a bit better what you want to express.Keep posting...

pretty thoughtful...though I must say a weird age to write on this subject :P . I mean I had these questions brewing up in my mind when I was in standard 6th and was looking for reasons to do things that were supposed to be done a particular way. And I think might stumble on these again during my twilight days. A very apt thought , but worth pondering over at the two extremities of journey . Which extremity are you on . Its not hard to guess though :Pwgm

Liked the second last para...abt happiness...Happiness for me is the feeling that comes along with satisfaction. thot abt all such stuff at some point in time and have inferred in my own way. Nice dense thought :)

@Aa Dey,

No age is inapt for introspection :-)

@Phoenix
For a change :-)
@Macau
Obviously, when in doubt, Macau's opinion is one of the first I seek. :-)
@Neha
Thats just postponing the definition to another feeling (that of satisfaction). Yeah pretty dense :-)

Borrowing a few lines from your exposition, hope u won't sue me for plagiarism!
So why are we here ? Not here in life, but here on blogger?
What should we be doing to make this blog meaningful ?
Helping others ? In doing what ? In understanding life better..? Better than whom ? Animals have a clear purpose. But do you? What's with all this waste of time and gray matter...don't you know that dwindling resource should be preserved?
Jokes apart, a very valid question. One which has crossed my mind several times. Do tell me if you find something concrete.
